Wednesday 29th

So got here Monday night, first real news of the tsunami after the sketchy reports we got on the plane, awful stuff. Local news here of course quickly moves on to criticism of the Aussie government for what they didn’t do quickly enough… and I still haven’t met anyone who voted for Johnnie Howard ;-)

Lovely first day seeing Pen & Leon and family, lots of nice food and then trying to fight off the jetlag while Leon & James explained the rules of test match cricket… talk about a waste of time! Everyone’s complaining about the cold and dragging out the winter woollies – after leaving a white Christmas I’m acclimatizing well to a mild 18˚c or so, gives me a day or so to get used to it before it shoots back up to the 30s!

Bit of shopping today (just to get my head round the currency you understand) – public transport is bloody expensive here, thought the Luas was bad – and making plans for New Year’s Eve – it’s a really big deal here, even city council flags up in the streets advertising NYE 04. Fireworks should be good; we can see the harbour bridge from the front garden… Oh and Sydney has caught the creeping disease of outdoor xmas lighting, just as ott here as it is in Ballybough.

Ger leaves for Canada today – his text messages have a very stressed feel to them ;-)

KL

just testing my new wireless card - and enjoying the novelty of writing emails in the airport (hi Bill!) - yes I know, under this supposed arty persona is a geek just waiting to get out...
anyway, bit more than 1/2 way through the journey, no sleep yet (I thought a bunch of culchie lads sitting behind me was my worst nightmare but it turns out that French culchies are worse ;-)) and so onwards to Sydney...

happy sad happy!

Just got the results of the final course for my degree... didn't get what I wanted (though it was what I expected) but don't care coz it's done, finished, completed, passed!

'Tis a bit strange to be finally done with it after 5 long years, especially thinking about everything that's happened since I started. Feeling a bit churned up and emotional really. Wish I could tell Maeve :-(

But hey! it's a whole new thing now and I'm going to celebrate with a large piece of chocolate cake (alcohol later!) :-)

just for starters

Less than 2 weeks till I leave Dublin so I thought I might test this out... and now that I've had the party (yeay) and the vaccinations (boo) it's all seeming a bit more real.

Since all my friends hate me anyway for missing out on our lovely January weather I figured I couldn't make things worse by letting them read about it.
So, I'll play around with this for a while and see if I'll have anything to say about Sydney in the summer...
